Most of my jewellery is hand crafted using silver, but I do also use high quality gold filled and gold vermeil as well.
So what is gold filled? The answer is that gold-filled is an actual layer of gold that has been pressure bonded to another suitable metal alloy and wears like solid gold. There is no flaking, rubbing off or changing of colour and your skin will only come into contact with the pure gold. This makes it more affordable, whilst still providing all the qualities of solid gold.
Gold-filled jewellery is not costume jewellery as the quantity of gold must be at least 1/20th by weight of the total product.
With care gold-filled jewellery should last a life time.
The Shiana Vermeil Karen hill tribe silver that I use is made using a
nickel-free process. They plate the pure silver with 1 micron of 18K
gold for strength, then follow the process by plating with 2 microns of 24K gold with 6
additional microns of protective coating. The 3 micron (micro meter) coating is
guaranteed. It is hand crafted in small batches and is approved fair trade, making it all the more beautiful.
